начинка нагасакской атомной бомбы: реально взорвался лишь 1 грамм

This photo shows a smiling Manhattan Project physicist - Dr. Harold Agnew
:
- holding the plutonium core of one of the world's most devastating weapons
- the Nagasaki 10,800-pound bomb nicknamed “Fat Man” (for Winston Churchill), detonated on August 9, 1945
- the 2-nd nuclear weapon to be deployed in combat
- after the US dropped a 5-ton atomic bomb - "Little Boy" on Hiroshima
- the core weighed only 14 pounds (6.4 kg)
- of which approximately 2 pounds underwent a fission reaction &
- only 1 gram of that yielded an explosion
- equivalent to 21,000 tons of TNT

- according to the "Atomic Heritage Foundation"
- it killed approximately 80,000 people

Agnew, who became the 3-rd director of the Los Alamos Laboratory
:
- flew in a plane alongside the Enola Gay &
- took the only footage of the "Little Boy" attack from a bird's eye view
